Summer Camp 2009
Summer camp 2009 was at Bayport Scout Reservation in Jamaica
Virginia on the Rappahannock River. 2009 was the largest group
of boys that have attending summer camp with 30 Scouts and 8 adults
attending. The drive was a bit long, but the boys have been
able to partake in both a traditional Boy Scout camping experience
and a high adventure program that provides the adventure and
challenge that the older boys wanted. The COPE program at
Bayport offered advanced climbing activities and team building
exercises along with an at sea program where the boys spend the day
out on the Chesapeake Bay,
With a large number of merit badge programs for all the Scouts and a
specialized program for the first years Scouts called the Nighthawk
program, the camp has exceeded our expectations on what is offered
and what the camp provides in the way of an air conditioned mess
hall, great food, awesome bathroom and shower facilities and an
Olympic sized swimming pool.
The weather has been 'unique' in that the average temperatures
during the day are in the mid 90's with a week high of 98 degrees.
An afternoon thunderstorm is the norm and our introduction to
southern thunderstorms was our first night with over 4" of water and
a very impressive thunder and lightning display. We all stayed
dry and safe and the boys were so tired they slept thru the night
anyway. These images can be expanded to a

Due to the large number of photos from summer
camp, we have separate photo galleries to show camp activities for
the pool, COPE, waterfront, camp and merit badge activities.
